Palau Castanyer
Palau Castanyer, located in Plaça Cucurulla, at the intersection of Carrer Portaferrissa and Portal de l’Àngel in Barcelona, was originally built in 1802. The building forms part of the Catalogue of Architectural Heritage of Catalonia and is listed as a BCIL (Local Cultural Heritage Asset).
The intervention involved a structural refurbishment to adapt the building to new retail and office uses. As a listed heritage asset, the preservation of protected elements was ensured at all times. The works restored and enhanced façades, decorated ceilings, staircases and interior courtyards, integrating contemporary building services and structural solutions without altering the heritage character of the building.

The restoration of a unique building
- The intervention included the preservation and enhancement of façades, decorated ceilings, staircases and interior courtyards, restoring them to their original splendour.
A contemporary space within a centuries-old building
- The transformation made it possible to create a modern and functional facility that coexists harmoniously with its heritage elements. New components were incorporated, such as metal structures and composite slabs, specifically designed to respond to the building’s construction constraints.
Delivering bespoke technical solutions
- The structural and regulatory complexity of the project required a high level of precision and coordination. Targeted reinforcement techniques, advanced protection systems and multidisciplinary site supervision were implemented to ensure compatibility between safety, sustainability and heritage preservation.
